Introduction
The MyDrugRef project began in 2007 as a proof of concept project. It has evolved into a major web application to deliver timely drug information to the OSCAR users at the point of care. This is the list of the functional components in MyDrugRef:
- Drug Warnings
- Treatments (Drug of Choice)
- Interactions (Drug-drug interactions)
- Bulletin (Basic Drug Information, recent announcements etc.)
- Guidelines (Practice tips related to patient's specific health conditions)
- Drug Monitoring
- Prices
How MyDrugRef communicates with OSCAR
From the OSCAR side, functional components 1, 3, 4, and 7 are triggered when a drug is prescribed as long as a mydrugref ID is specified in the OSCAR user's preference. The following information is transmitted from OSCAR to MyDrugRef:
ATC code of the drug being prescribed
ATC codes of any other drugs the patient is "actively" on
This information is used as one-time only and is never stored on the MyDrugRef server. The return information contains any posting related to the drug prescribed from the mydrugref ID as well as the trusted users for that ID.
With functional component 5, guideline postings are automatically loaded into OSCAR on user login for the OSCAR user who provided a MyDrugRef ID. The postings will also include the trusted mydrugref users for that ID. It is left to OSCAR how to use these information. Currently, OSCAR posts the guideline information as "Decision Support" alerts within the eChart.
Drug Monitoring postings are currently not available to OSCAR.
