OSCAR and Dependency lifecycles

The lifecycles of OSCAR and selected dependencies extend from their general release to when active development stops.

OSCAR Deb Reference Environments

The following are reference installation environments tested and recommended for installing OSCAR debs. They are not dependencies per se but rather supported combinations that worked at the time.

OSCAR and dependencies release cycles

dates are read from general release
to declared public end of life
or when the developers stopped actively fixing bugs

As systems exposed to the internet are always under attack, you are well advised to update to supported versions of OSCAR and its underlying infrastructure.

Note that Oracle Java requires a commercial liscence to run OSCAR in production as of Jan 2019

Open JDK is a project controlled by Oracle who currently only supports a version for 6 months or so.  After that the community takes over support.  AdoptOpenJDK provides extended support and binaries for anyone's use including Linux distributions. Support via AdoptOpenJDK for version 8 is planned to 2023 and version 11 to 2022
