2.5.8 Using GIMP/Photoshop to resize image

GIMP/Photoshop -
whatever software you use to manipulate your background - can be used
to resize your file to the 1500px width that Shelter suggests for the
e-form generator.  In addition, there can be annoying blemishes on the
scanned file that can be erased. The most important setting is
changing the image to gray scale from RGB/colour.  This saves a lot of
space.  I usually set to maximum compression too.  If the paper form
original is really poor I have redone the entire form, redrawing the
boxes and adding back the text, repositioning the text, etc. I may
leave the logo of the facility in place.

Ideally, the form should come as an "original pdf file", rather than
paper for scanning.  This gives you the ideal background to work on,
with no blemishes, the smallest file, etc.  Resizing is still
necessary, and I still take out the checkboxes and input lines.  And
change to gray scale from colour.  Always do a test print to see if
the quality of the GIMP'd product is acceptable.   And do incremental
saves, so that you can backtrack if needed.
